Story about food
My name is Li, Xiang. I am 24 years old, and I was born in Qingdao, China.
Qingdao is a very beautiful coastal city. Sea food is the main dish that represent my city. The sea food in my city is so fresh and you can have different kind of sea food in different season. Most of Chinese learned how to cook by a course called Fried Tomato and Eggs, it is very easy to make and easy to cook. But, I am different. The course that I cooked was fried rice. When I was about ten years old, I learned from my grandmother. Because I love fried rice so much, so my grandmother decide to teach me how to cook fried rice. At that time, I could barely reach the cooking bench. My grandma was holding my hand and teach me. You will open the fire let it heat the pan, after a while put some oil in the pan. When the oil is heated, add some eggs in it. Then you want to stir fry the eggs, then you put steam rice in the pan. You want to mix the rice with eggs. When the rice is fully heated you can turn off the fire, and add some soy souse. A delicious fried rice is done. You can add what ever you want to add in the fried rice, like shrimp or beef or so on. After my grandma taught me how to cook fried rice, fried rice become my signature dish. Over five years ago, I was about to leave China and come to America. My grandma was afraid that I will miss the taste of family so she taught me two more courses. First one I called it spinach pan, and the other one is shrimp. Spinach is very easy but it take some time. You need to boil spinach for a while and put spinach in cool water. After the spinach is cool down, you need to cut these spinach into little pieces. then add some flour, eggs and salt in these spinach, mix them together. Put a pan on fire, and just put a little bit oil in it. At last, put these spinach into the pan, you will have a very health dish called spinach pan. Shrimp is one of my grandma’s signature dish. The key for this shrimp is ketch up. Chinese people usually don't use ketch up in their food. So the ketch up make this shrimp so special. After five years, I still cook spinach pan and shrimp when I miss my home. When I came to America, I was attracted by the food here. It is so different than Chinese food. Because America is so diversity, it has lots of different kinds of food in the whole world. I love cajun food, I love steak, I love pasta. I love everything that is tasty. So I spent a lot time to learn how to cook these food. Now, I can cook very delicious steak that I think it’s as good as the steak in Taste of Texas. There are so many stories with food in my life. Some are good some not. It will have a lot more. I am willing to enjoy my life with this foods. Life is like a course, you don't know the taste of it if you don't eat it. |
