In the year 2017, not one of us can deny the fact that food has a become an import part of our society and in particular pop culture. We see proof in the fact that we have whole shows dedicated to food, we even have a whole channel dedicated to food! We see food on the television, we hear about food in music, so it is no surprise that we also have movies about food.
The movie I chose was “Sausage Party”, and if you haven’t seen it, it’s pretty funny. So if you haven’t watched it then don’t read this article. The movie was made in 2016 and directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan. It’s about a sausage named Frank who wants to go to the Great Beyond with his girlfriend a hot dog bun named Brenda. When finally, Brenda and Frank are chosen by their human gods to go to the Great Beyond, they encounter mustard that reveals to them that it is all a lie and to seek Firewater out. Seeking verify the mustard’s story they journey across the grocery aisles with lavash named Kareem Abdul Lavash and a bagel names Sammy Bagel Jr. Once he finally meets Firewater and all the other non-perishables, they smoke weed together they tell the story of the Great Beyond. They made up the story to cover up that the all foods were going to be eaten by the humans. This is when Frank decides to tell the rest of the groceries about their fate. The groceries decide not to believe Frank, and so he goes in search of proof to the freezer. Meanwhile, another sausage named Barry who was chosen by the humans manages to escape. He then runs into a person who does drugs. This person on a bath salt trip gains the ability to speak with the groceries. By freak accident the person is decapitated. Barry then brings back the severed head to the grocery store, and thus providing the proof that humans can be killed. The groceries finally decide to wage war on the humans. Overall the movie was funny, but I’d rather just watch it in the comfort of my house on Netflix.
Movies like this serve to show how much food has become part of our culture. We see food references in different aspects of our lives. And I don’t think that will ever change. And who know knows, maybe food with bring us closer as people and bring peace. Haha… or maybe wishing thinking from a person who loves food!
