Literature is a reflection of a time and people and a modern form of literature is rap. Rappers are modern poets who are voicing a generation through poetry. Rappers, much like other writers, use strong metaphors and acts to showcase an emotion, time, or story, much like Shakespeare's use of metaphors and creation of words to convey a specific feeling.

What started out as mockery quickly became an inexplicable trend. Rappers from the east coast to the west coast began using "grey poupon" as a filler in their raps. Grey poupon was associated with luxury and class and was used to mock such ridiculous product and commercial, but every major rapper since the early 1980's has incorporated "grey poupon" into at least one of their tracks.
