The Oyster Plate is a beautifully crafted porcelain plate which can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was created by Union Porcelain Works. It was created during a time when oysters were popular and a new trend in New York City. The plate represents a partial aspect of the New York City food scene and it symbolizes the culture through the artwork. Oysters were a popular appeal in the 1800s in New York and it was a very popular street food in demand, heavily enjoyed by the wealthy and the poor residents of the city.
