Foodie in the Making
I was born into a Mexican family and everyday my mom would cook a typical Mexican dish for my dad and my brothers. Despite being born into a culture with delicious food; like tacos, tortas, gorditas, mole, pozole, etc. I didn’t always love food the way that I do now. I was rather picky with my food as a child. My favorite food to eat was either pizza, hamburgers, or fried chicken... basically anything that greasy and from a fast food place. It wasn’t until I had sushi for the second time that my whole perspective on food changed. I know that sounds funny, but the first time I tried sushi it was at a buffet and it was terrible, it made me sick. Anyways, the second time I tried sushi I was in Dallas and my cousin took me to a sushi bar. Reluctant to try to sushi again, I decided to give it a try one more time. I can honestly say that first bite of the roll of sushi changed my life. I didn’t know how delicious sushi could be. That got me thinking had I made up my mind about certain foods only because the first time I didn’t like it or it didn’t look appetizing. That was exactly what I had done all those years. It was then that I decided to give different foods a try. At that moment, I discovered I had a passion for food. Now I can happily say I tried different food from different cultures and I loved it. At this point in my life I don’t have a favorite food, but I will say since I’m Mexican I do love me some tacos al pastor with onion, cilantro, and salsa.
