The Night Circus is a book about a mysterious circus called Le Cirque des Rêves that arrives in a town with no warning it literally just pops up and in every town it appears in there is the smell of caramel in the air. And of course as is a part of every circus’s identity there is fair food. Such as caramel apples, popcorn, warm apple cider, chocolate treats, and more. The treats and the constant smell of caramel surrounding the circus becomes a trademark for this infamous show.
The identity of the circus is mystery. And the midnight dinners mentioned in the book are a part of this identity. These dinners are thrown by the proprietor of the circus and are an extravagant affair. The dinners start at midnight and include acrobats, musicians and circus performers. The menu is never revealed guest at the dinner parties are left to guess and wonder about what they are eating. If anyone were to ask what they are eating the proprietor Chandresh says the recipes belong to the chef and he won’t reveal their secrets or who his chef’s identity. The descriptions of food are very much in tune with the rest of the aura in this novel. Words like delectable and extraordinary are used. The food is just as extravagant and luxurious as everything else in the book. The food mentioned in this book as much of a show and production and leaves you wanting a taste just as much as you want a ticket to Le Cirque des Rêves.
