My Food Biography
The earliest remembrance of pancakes and strawberry syrup shows the initiation to the many phases of food has presented in my life. Being young and excited about eating breakfast was such a huge event waiting to occur. It all started with early memories of Saturday mornings with my family going to a local IHOP or Denny's and enjoying food as the ultimate reward, and pancakes still rank supreme as my primary food for such an occasion. For those days where eating wasn't and option, Pop-Tarts never left me dissatisfied. Consistently, strawberry was my favorite and still is today. For some years of my childhood, I was really fond of strawberries, so why not try every kind of strawberry-flavored food. However, strawberry-flavored food wasn't the end all, be all.

But my entire biographical journey of food hasn't always been pleasant. I never understood the satisfaction of drinking plain milk. It's always been an overhyped experienced. Even though I enjoyed milk with cereal, the independence of it was at times, disgusting as a child. The only kind of milk I moderately enjoyed was chocolate milk, which stirs memories of Nesquik. Something about making it partially from scratch was fun and different. Even chocolate ice cream and cake were sweet joys. My favorite part of cake was icing, because it was the sweetest. This was just a habitual desire I constantly craved, which I realized my high tolerance for sugary products. I recollect the times my cravings could cause me trouble, specifically taking more cookies that I should have a swiftly leaving the crime scene. But sweets aren't the entire narrative of my food excursion.
I always loved pizza, growing up heavily on Papa John's and Pizza Hut. Cheese was my favorite, but nowadays I prefer pepperoni overall. Pizza would however be the gateway drug to me enjoying different kinds of Italian food. My mother would cook a handful of different meals, but her signature dish was spaghetti. The making of spaghetti was eye-opening as a child. The transformation of stiff noodles becoming slick and mobile with the addition of boiled water was cool to observe. It was as if the stability of the uncooked noodles lacked vitality, but soon enough, water would give motion to the unmovable. Even the way spaghetti is eaten is unorthodox compared to a majority of food. Twisting a fork to gather spaghetti efficiently was a skill, however, I spent most times eating spaghetti like a starving animal with no manners. The most interesting aspect of my journey with food is how drastically my taste and appreciation for food has evolved. I've changed from strawberry syrup to maple, preferring vanilla cake to chocolate, and better yet cheesecake over the previous two. Cake icing isn't something that sparks me anymore, but rather the breaking of cake. And I don't typically crave sugar-filled products as much anymore and these epiphanies were not recent. By the time I reached high school, I remember some of the best times with friends were hanging out at fast food restaurants. Value menus were the quintessential food supply for jobless adolescent students. Reminiscing about these moments bring the most vivid times with food and how relational food can be. Traveling to different places has also widened my perspective of food and how different every region may prepare it. Though my affinities to food have changed, I look forward to the future satisfying expedition.
